Kundiman Commits to PACBI

Kundiman commits to the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI).

As part of our just transition process, this decision was made in collaboration between Kundiman’s Staff and Board of Trustees, following town halls, surveys, and extensive conversations with Kundiman community members. These steps took time, but were necessary to ensure that our organization’s decision-making processes were inclusive and equitable. We thank our community for your input throughout this process, and are especially grateful to Palestinian and SWANA community members.

The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement, which PACBI is part of, calls for boycotts of activities, events, and projects which legitimize or otherwise enable Israel’s regime of apartheid, settler colonialism, and occupation. It does not call for or condone boycotts of individuals because of their Israeli or Jewish origin or identity. In other words, BDS targets complicity, not identity.

We join numerous literary and arts organizations in signing onto PACBI, and we hope this encourages other organizations to follow suit. Committing to PACBI reaffirms our solidarity with the Palestinian community and puts into practice our mission and vision of using the arts as a tool of empowerment, education, and liberation, and addressing proactively the legacy we will leave for our future.
