Kundiman Executive Director Update

The Kundiman Board is pleased to announce that Cathy Linh Che has been reinstated as Kundiman’s Executive Director.

This decision was made in concert with Kundiman Staff and in consideration of Cathy’s 10+ years of outstanding leadership and service to Kundiman, without which we could not have grown to the national organization we are today.

“Cathy Linh Che has deep knowledge of Kundiman’s programming, development, and communications. Her return will be instrumental to the next phase of Kundiman’s work, while also expanding Kundiman’s goal to become even more inclusive and representative of our community,” said Rana Tahir, President of the Kundiman Board. “Cathy’s reinstatement is a revitalizing step toward restorative and labor justice, and we look forward to collaborating with her.”

Cathy Linh Che has worked in nonprofit administration, education, and publishing for over 20 years. In 2012, Cathy was hired as a communications consultant for Kundiman. In 2014, she became Kundiman's Managing Director, and she was hired on as Executive Director in 2016. She has also worked for Kaya Press, New Directions Publishing, and Poets & Writers, and served as Diasporic Vietnamese Artists Network Advisor and the Poetry Coalition Leadership Committee Member. Cathy is the author of the poetry collections Becoming Ghost and Split and the children’s book An Asian American A to Z: A Children’s Guide to Our History. Her film and video work includes Appocalips and the Sundance Award-winning We Were the Scenery.

“I am excited to return as Executive Director to Kundiman and I’m heartened by the new Board’s commitment to a just transition process,” said Che. “I look forward to working with the Board, Staff, and community on building an even stronger Kundiman.”
