MULTI-CITY ASIAN AMERICAN LITERATURE FESTIVAL TO RETURN IN SEPTEMBER 2024 FOLLOWING 2023 CANCELLATION

2024 Asian American Literature Festival Will Convene to Recognize and Celebrate the Role of Asian Diasporic Literature in Creating Community

NEW YORK, NY—On the occasion of AAPI Heritage Month, the Asian American Literature Festival Collective (AALFC) announces the triumphant and long-awaited return of the Asian American Literature Festival, which will take place from September 14th–22nd, 2024.

On the heels of the abrupt cancellation of the 2023 Festival by the Smithsonian last summer, the AALFC will proceed with an independently organized and collectively funded iteration of the Festival. For the first time in its history, the Festival will take place in-person and virtually both across the country (cities hosting events include Athens and Atlanta, GA; Champaign-Urbana, IL; Los Angeles, CA; Minneapolis, MN; New York, NY; San Francisco, CA; Seattle, WA) and globally, with international presences in Aotearoa (New Zealand) and Australia.

Curated and produced by a collective of artists, librarians, educators, scholars, and publishers, the 2024 Festival will convene writers and readers through a series of in-person and hybrid events. Events will include interactive installations, readings, salons, and workshops designed to support and nurture Asian diasporic literature and literary community.

The 2024 AALF serves as a space of kinship and care where we celebrate all the voices within our community — especially Palestinian, trans, and queer voices — at a time when this space is needed most.

Through our expansive programming, we send a reminder that no institution can cancel the strength of our community and our collective support for one another as members of the AAPI diaspora. This September, our celebration of AAPI literature affirms that our stories matter and they’re here to stay.
